Self-pay fees
Ask for current individual or couples session fees, session length, cancellation terms and any available fee arrangements before booking.
Using insurance
I accept Stanford Cardinal Care and Aetna, as well as private pay. For out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill to submit for reimbursement. Your copay, deductible and reimbursement depend on your specific plan.
What to ask your plan
- Is this specific clinician and practice in network for my exact plan?
- What deductible, copay, or coinsurance applies to this service?
- Is a referral or prior authorization required?
- Are online sessions covered when I am located in California?
- Are there any visit limits or other conditions I should understand?
Ask the practice for the service and billing code that apply to your actual appointment. Codes depend on the service provided and documented time. HHS lists 90834 for 38–52 minutes and 90837 for 53 minutes or more; a 50-minute session should not be described automatically as 90837.
Out-of-network care
A superbill is a receipt you may submit to an insurer for possible reimbursement. Whether the plan pays, and how much, depends on your benefit. Confirm eligibility before relying on reimbursement.
Questions about out-of-network reimbursement →Couples therapy
Ask specifically about the service being provided. Relationship-focused work may not be covered by your plan. Confirm the fee and any applicable benefit directly.
