Insurance · Wellfleet

When your card says Wellfleet.

The administrator, provider network and benefits are related, but they are not the same thing.

A familiar name does not establish coverage

Having a Wellfleet-administered plan does not by itself confirm coverage for a particular therapist or service. Start with the exact plan, plan year, network and current eligibility. Ask the practice and the plan to verify the clinician and billing arrangement.

Students, scholars, employees and dependents can have different coverage. An affiliation with a university is not evidence that everyone has the same plan. Use your current card and member account rather than assuming from another person’s experience.

Stanford is one specific example

For 2026–27, Stanford says Cardinal Care medical and mental health benefits are administered by Wellfleet Student, with the Blue Shield of California PPO network in California and Cigna PPO outside California. This is a plan description, not verification of Shawn’s participation.

Read Stanford’s official Cardinal Care information and the local Cardinal Care guide. Other Wellfleet-administered plans may have different arrangements.

Ask before the first session

  • Does my exact plan cover this clinician, billing arrangement and service?
  • What deductible, copay or coinsurance applies? What will I owe if the claim is not paid?
  • Are referrals, authorization or visit limits relevant?
  • Do in-person and online benefits differ?
  • Which service code actually applies to the session being offered?

Use the member services number on your card and confirm the practice’s information separately. Keep the date and reference number for your own records. A benefits quote does not guarantee payment.

When your program or coverage changes

Ask your plan for the exact coverage end date and any applicable transition options. Discuss changes with the practice before the next session. The website cannot guarantee continued coverage, a particular cost, or uninterrupted care through a benefits change.

Take the next step

Download the insurance call checklist · Compare payment pathways · Ask about a consultation

Shawn offers adult individual and couples therapy and accepts Stanford Cardinal Care, Aetna and private pay. Ask about current fees, openings and your plan’s benefits.
