Different kinds of support answer different questions.
You may be looking for someone to talk with, an evaluation, help with medication, or a group that understands your experience.
Start with what you need to ask
Ongoing therapy
Ask about the clinician’s age groups, scope, approach and experience with your concern. A consultation can help clarify fit.
Adult therapy with Shawn →Psychiatry or evaluation
Ask the organization exactly what it evaluates, who conducts the assessment, whether medication care is available, and what referrals are required.
Explore independent options →Peer or group support
Ask who leads the group, whether it is clinical treatment or community support, and what the participation and confidentiality arrangements are.
Explore the directory →Parent or school support
Ask whether support is for a caregiver, a child, the family together, or school planning. One service may not cover all of these.
Explore parent support →Clarify before you book
A provider’s name or a familiar service label may not tell you what happens in an appointment. Ask: “What is included, who is eligible, and what would the next step be if this is not the right service?” If an assessment report is needed for school or another purpose, ask about that purpose before scheduling or paying.
The directory contains independent organizations. Their inclusion does not establish an affiliation with Shawn or an endorsement of any treatment. It does not mean Shawn provides their services. Confirm appointments, eligibility, language access and cost with the organization.
A clinician can help you decide
Treatment choice depends on a person’s needs and medical situation. A qualified health professional can help assess what care is appropriate; a website cannot make that determination. NIMH: psychotherapy and choosing a provider explains psychotherapy and questions to discuss with a provider.
This guide offers questions and care-navigation information, not an assessment or treatment recommendation.
